Lou helps you through a friendship breakup. What you write here is personal, so it stays on your phone. This page explains exactly what leaves it and what never does.

What stays on your phone

Your answers, her name, your check-ins, your notes, the messages you keep and the letters you seal are stored only on this iPhone. We have no server that receives them and no account to log into. If you delete the app, they are gone.

Anonymous usage statistics

To improve Lou, the app sends anonymous events such as "a check-in was completed" or "the paywall was shown", through PostHog (servers in the European Union). These events never contain anything you wrote, her name, or your answers in words. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, under Share anonymous usage stats.

Subscriptions

Purchases are handled by Apple. RevenueCat, our subscription provider, receives an anonymous app identifier and your purchase status so the app knows whether your subscription is active. We never see your payment details.

Measuring our ads

When you install Lou from one of our ads, AppsFlyer tells us which ad it was and whether a free trial started, so we can stop ads that don't help anyone. Lou never asks to track you across other apps and never reads your advertising identifier. Measurement relies on Apple's privacy-preserving attribution.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled on your phone. They never show her name or anything you wrote on your lock screen.

Face ID

If you turn on the lock, iOS checks your face or passcode. Lou only receives a yes or a no.

Your choices

In Settings you can export what you wrote, delete your writing, delete your history, or erase everything. You can also write to us to ask any question about your data.

Children

Lou is not intended for anyone under 16.
